Sarries v Harlequins at the LS this Saturday

A mates son plays for a club in Orpington and the club got tickets. He invited me along and as I have never been to Rugby before I decided to go. Anyone else going and for those with experience what can I expect?

Decent atmosphere. They just didn't put some blocks up for sale by the look of it. My mate's dad got our tickets for half price so they would have been about 50 quid full price and we were sat in what I assume would be band 1 or 2 seats. (row 30, 139) Good view but wouldn't be worth the difference between there and what my season ticket seat is.

The baseball sold out both days really quickly, so I'd imagine it will be full to whatever capacity they have allocated. I expect the first few rows of the East stand will have been marked to be vacant, depending on where they place the bullpen. Curious to see if they try and put some sort of outfield wall up. Can't see how they'd be able to, though.

Agree with Lard, much prefer watching Quins at The Stoop to the bigger Double-Header/ Christmas Big Game shows. Stoop tickets are normally available on general sale.

Didnt get to this one but. made to the same game last year, bigger crowd, not atmosphere.
These games are great for gate receipts and broadening the clubs attraction but, not a lot else.
Its the same at Twickenham with the London double header.
Rugby only really sparks up if its at a core ground or Twickenham if its England in a competitive fixture

Hi all, promised to feedback so here goes. Very odd first up to go to a ground mixing with both sets of fans in such a friendly atmosphere and everyone sitting together. I was towards the back of the upper tier by the posts and the few was imho not a problem. There was 42,000 there and I paid £20 but not sure what the other ticket prices would have been. The game itself was o.k. but the atmosphere was non exiistent. They kept putting up messages on screen saying "Make some noise" which tells you all you need to know. Anyway, good day out and had a load of beers in good company and would like to go again but probably to Twickenham to sense a proper atmosphere. Shame Owen Farrell didn't play but Marcus Smith as somoene pointed out was good to watch and scored a good try. Going to the Everton game on Sat so back to what I am used to.

Saracens have two West Ham fans, Jackson Wray who did something at the stadium before last year's game and Max Crumpton.

I noticed someone mentioned Michy 'the munch' Skinner as being one of the 'hod carriers' in Harlequins teams of old. He's nothing of the sort, though he plays up the hard-drinking, wild Geordie man schtick something chronic. He's made a fortune installing IT systems, notably for the Met Police and apparently has a huge gaff in Sevenoaks.

I tried interviewing him once, but made the rookie error of doing it post-match so he was bladdered. Was just after Chris Robshaw was made captain of England and tried making the link as they were both Harlequins back-rowers. The most I got out of the swaying Skinner was that Robshaw was 'a good bloke and that's all that matters'.

Sven, it was sold out apparently, 57K. No idea what the ticket prices were, but I do seem to recall them getting a lot more when they held it at Twickenham or Wembley.

Mind you, Saracens apparently struggle to get 10K to come up to Barnet. With tickets going for up to 70 quid a pop that may not be a surprise, but if that's case for the most successful club in the land it just makes you wonder about the long term future of club rugby in the country.

Any word on what ticket prices were for this and what sort of crowd they achieved?
Curious to see how it stacks up against the baseball that's on in June.

Yeah, bit hypocritical of Glos to play the new money/professional card when his chosen club owe their status to those horny-handed West Country sons of the soil - Scottish spiv and F! cheat Tom Walkinshaw, and property developer Martin St. Quinton - sounds somewhat hollow given his disdain for the likes of Sarries and Wasps.

Course 'Quins have always had links to the City, but it's nonsense to suggest there wasn't always a mixture of all sorts up there, just like most rugby clubs.

Andrew Harriman was one of the posh ones Sold0, Radley and Cambridge iirc. I think he works in property now. Remember him captaining England to the Rugby World Cup sevens in 1993 ? Some team they had, Rodber, Dallaglio, Dawson. Dave Scully playing out of his skin. Christ, makes me feel old.

I remember the team pre that generation as well as the ones you call out. Around this time, the best 6 second rows in England were all policemen, 2 of them worked in the same station in Clapham.

I played with one of them, who whilst he was captain had a very good kid make his debut who also went on to play for England.

This kid was giving the ref lots of back chat, so the ref complained to the skipper, who went over, punched the kid in question, knocking him to the ground, walked back to the ref and said, he won't "give you any more back chat sir".

The kid in question when he won his first cap for England, was back down the club the next day to hand his shirt over to the club.

True that epsom.... when I started following Quins in the amateur days it was a good mixture... you had Carling, Moore, Winterbottom and Halliday and co up the City and then the hod carriers like Leonard and Skinner... Coppers like Ackford... not sure what Andy Harriman did.... he was bloody fast though

We get across to The Stoop couple of times a season, decent day out.

Quins will be flakey but will have some flair moments, especially if Marcus Smith plays. Sarries will grind it out, and probably win.

Gloucester does have a great rugby culture though, pretty much every school plays the game, and the junior clubs are good. Some mad teams in the Forest (of Dean) though back in the day, pure Orc DNA.

You are going back way too far. I can remember the Quins team from the days pre league structure and they were made up of builders, policemen, teachers as well as lawyers, accountants etc.

Quins was the club you went to if you were good and moving to London.

Richmond became the really clique club who were really up their backsides. They had a number of players good enough for England, but were never selected as no one liked Richmond.

Don’t be like that Gloucester - anger is such a negative influence on life.

I am prepared to admit there is an element of truth about Harlequins, public schools and the City, there’s more of a myth about it though. It might easier to see the myth from 100 miles away.

I first went to Harlequins when they had a rope around the pitch and they’ve always been nothing but welcoming

You did of course leave off Bath from “your” list of Rugby’s big clubs, that would be an error on your part rather than being prepared to accept their status as the true club of the West Country

Oh dear, no offence taken. That you appear at least to know fuck all about the well established links between Quinn’s and the public school system probably means that you’re a relatively new support from the professional age. I’m talking pre-professional age where Tarquin (see what I did there?) and Rupert fell out of Harrow and into a job in the city and jolly ole Quine.

Fucking shit house club, always has been, always will be.
